Over 4,000 stores in 40 years: Philippine Seven’s Paterno to pour in P4.5 billion to expand 7-ELEVEN network

The country’s largest convenience store network led by bilyonaryo Jose Victor P. Paterno is ramping up its store expansion and renovation with a budget of P4.5 billion this year.

Philippine Seven Corporation (SEVN) intends to establish 450 new stores this year, aiming to mark its 40th year milestone by opening its 4,000th store in 2024.

This anniversary coincides with the four-decade journey since the company’s inaugural store launch in Quezon City amidst a financial and political crisis back in 1984.

SEVN opened a total of 375 stores (with 33 closures) in 2023 with a budget of P3.5 billion to P4 billion.

The company has a total of 3,829 7-Eleven convenience stores nationwide after opening 71 stores (with 10 closures) in the first quarter year. Franchise stores account for 47 percent of its branch network.

There were more stores opened outside Metro Manila as a response to the changing consumer behavior and competitive landscape.

SEVN posted a 21 percent growth in profit to P639 million in the first quarter this year on total sales of P22 billion.

But same store sales growth has slowed down in the last two quarters after posting double-digit quarterly growth since the onset of 2022.

More than just a convenience store, 7-Eleven constantly cooks up fun and exciting activities for its loyal community of customers. One way it’s consistently done so is through the 7-Eleven Run Series. Approaching its 12th installment, the annual event is set to make a comeback on February 4, 2024 with the goal of uniting Filipinos to get up and get running for their health.

As one of the country’s biggest nationwide running events, the 7-Eleven Run will once again simultaneously be held in three different venues. To shake things up, new locations have been chosen for this edition, and participants can now expect to sprint through the streets of Manila, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro.

In its pursuit to offer Filipinos a fresh and exhilarating yet inviting experience, 7-Eleven has ensured that the event is accessible to everyone, no matter one’s age or experience. Runners can choose from ten distance categories across all three venues: 1K, 3K, 5K, 5K Buddy, 10K, 10K Buddy, 16K, 21K, 32K, and 42K

But that’s not all; the top three overall Filipino winners in both the male and female 21K, 32K, and 42K divisions won’t only get the glory, they’ll also have the honor of representing the country in an international competition.

Registration for the run is currently ongoing and will last until January 16, 2024 with fees starting at P400. Aspiring participants can also join by collecting e-stamps when making a minimum purchase of P100 at 7-Eleven from each category’s sponsor brands. The number of e-stamps needed range from 15-30 depending on the runner’s desired category.

As a fried chicken-loving nation, a fried chicken meal is part of every Filipino’s weekly diet. With a country eager for a juicy, flavorful bite on the regular, it’s no wonder that a lot of players – from restaurants, fast-food places, and even convenience stores – have claimed leadership in the space from serving size to flavor.

Opening the doors of 7-Eleven’s  2000th Crunch Time store to the fried chicken fans of San Fernando, Pampanga is a big milestone. But making more people happier because a craving-saving chicken is conveniently within reach and can be served in no time is a bigger milestone.

Crispy, juicy, and packed with a winning taste, Crunch Time has become one of the everyday Pinoy’s go-to chicken meals, also thanks to the accessibility and convenience offered by 7-Eleven. On top of being just a short walk away from most fried chicken cravers, Crunch Time, over the years, has also been known for offering interesting spins to its recipe such as the Sriracha Chicken. It has also come up with novel formats to fulfill Pinoys’ cravings as seen in the Crunch Time Concept Store in Angeles, Pampanga, which has nuggets, corn dog, chicken fillet, and fried bread apart from its signature chicken meal.

“We’re very proud of this amazing feat of being able to be closer to more Filipinos and satisfy their fried chicken cravings. Our Crunch Time brand has always been about delivering on flavor and convenience, things that have made it one of the top choices of busy office workers, students, and regular customers who want to have a bite of crispy, flavorful chicken at a friendly price,” says Armi Cagasan, Strategic Merchandise Division Head of 7-Eleven Philippines.

Becoming widely available means new things for customers to look forward to, as 7-Eleven continues to innovate its food choices in order to keep up with Pinoys’ dynamic tastes and demands. In a chicken hurry? 7-Eleven has chicken ready in over 2,000 stores nationwide and chicken fans can now have a crunchy feast at their newest branch. Those wishing to visit Crunch Time’s 2000th store can drop by at Capitol Boulevard, Mercury St., Brgy. San Pedro, San Fernando, Pampanga.
