Celebrating 400 Stores in the Philippines

Filipinos follow a daily pattern. In the morning, employees rushing to work pass by to pick up a cup of coffee and a pastry. Toward cold beverage, hotdogs, hot meals and ice cream. The afternoon rush expects an influx of coffee and snack runs. In the evening, traffic slows down a bit before it picks up again from those looking for a few nibbles and drinks to wind-up their day.

This is the world of 7-Eleven -- that ever-so-convenient neighborhood store that changed the way many Filipinos shop.

Today, hundreds of 7-Elevens dot the Philippines -- it's now set to open its 400th store to be exact.

"As the biggest convenience store chain in the country, 400 is more than just a number -- it is a sign of commitment," begins Jose Victor Paterno, President and CEO of Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC). "The company started 27 years ago with one vision in mind: to be the best retailer of convenience in the country; and over the past years, 7-Eleven stores have never closed their doors to Filipino consumers and never ceased to enrich the communities they serve."

Arguably, 7-Eleven has come a long way since it opened its first store on February 29, 1984 in Quezon City. The tenacity of the franchise has proven to withstand the test of political and economical difficulties and stayed strong amid the EDSA revolution and the economic crisis of 1998.

Chalking it up to the universal language of convenience, the company slowly grew during its first year and established key lessons underscored by the fact that 7-Eleven will continue to provide only the best for its customers.

Proving that it is the best in the industry, PSC was recognized by the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) during the 10th Franchise Excellence Awards (FEA) held on July 1, 2009 and received the Franchise Campaign Marketing of the Year Award, PSC has already been recognized into award giving body's Hall of Fame.

Known for its wide assortment of quality products, redefining modern convenience has always been the core purpose of the company that sets it apart from the rest. Combined with its exceptional customer service and great value everyday, it continuously sets the bar in the convenience store industry.

More than that, the company's involvement and commitment to give back to the community -- made possible through partnerships with various environmental and children's welfare advocacy groups -- has allowed it to contribute in the enrichment of the communities that supports it.

"This is the fundamental principle at the heart of every brand and has been the benchmark of retailers in the convenience store industry," asserts Mr. Paterno. "Each store that we open aims to put a smile on the faces of its customers -- 24/7."

This year, the PSC adds another milestone to illustrious 27-year history with the opening of its 400th store at the new Telus Building in Araneta Center.

"7-Eleven's values of being customer-focused and results oriented fused with teamwork, integrity and reliability have led us to where we are right now. Every 7-Eleven employee carries these to serve the community," enthuses Mr. Paterno.

As it has consistently brought smiles to the communities they serve, 7-Eleven is celebrating the opening of its 400th store starting today, July 15, with a 400-hour long celebration for all its customers. To sweeten the deal even more, Slurpee treats will be given to the first 400 customers of every 7-Eleven store, today, starting 7 am.

The celebration of smiles will carry on as 7-Eleven holds true to its aim of bringing smiles to the communities it serves. With its 400th store, 7-Eleven hopes to open a foyer of smiles meant to inspire people to amke the world better.
